Erkkilän silta

The Erkkilän silta overbridge was renewed in 2025–2026. The old bridge was taken down and replaced with a new wider bridge that is suited for more versatile use. The refurbished Erkkilänkatu street now has separate bicycle lanes and pedestrian pavements in addition to the car lanes.

Why was the bridge under renewal?

The alterations in the passenger railway yard, the construction of the railway tracks at Naistenlahti, as well as improving the railway throughput require more space in the Erkkilän silta bridge structures, height and support structures.

The iconic bridge will be put to new use

Erkkilän silta was known for its blue arch. The arch has been taken into storage when the old bridge was torn down. There have been plans to rehome the blue arch on, for example, the Näsisaari artificial island.
