This page introduces the various projects that are ongoing and in the works for the Station District. They form a complex whole, but everyone involved is working towards a common goal: the Station District is being developed into a modern central area and a seamless node of all modes of transport for Tampere residents and visitors alike.
Projects

Tampere Railway Station Area Development Project
This project will improve the functionality of the passenger railway yard and station area for passengers and trains alike. After the completion of the project, exchanges between various modes of transport at the station will be easy, swift and barrier-free, and the area will be safe and pleasant to get around in.

Station Centre
The Station Centre project will bring new homes as well as office and commercial premises and jobs to the south of the railway station. The development will improve the accessibility of the station and make exchanges between various modes of transport smoother. The project will also generate a pleasant and green urban space. The Station Centre will link seamlessly with the North Deck that is in the works between the Travel and Service Centre and Nokia Arena.

North Deck
The North Deck will extend the construction above the railway on the north side of the Sorinsilta bridge. The South Deck to the south of the Kalevantie road was completed in 2020, and two high-rises and the Nokia Arena have already been constructed on top of it. Next in line is the North Deck and the related high-rises to be built on the other side of Kalevantie, which will be seamlessly connected to the Travel and Service Centre.

Underground parking
The first expansion of the P-Hämppi underground parking facility is linked to the simultaneously prepared Tampere Travel and Service Centre project, which entails the decommissioning of the current above-ground P-Asema parking facility at the railway station. The expansion is set to be built under the current P-Asema building and the Rautatienkatu street.

Hotel Torni expansion
A new tall hotel tower is in the plans to the east of the railway yard, in connection with the vacant railway shed next to the existing Hotel Torni building. According to current plans, the hotel extension would boast some 300 rooms, as well as restaurants and large event and seminar facilities. The project is promoted by S Group’s hotel operator Sokotel Oy and the Elo Mutual Pension Insurance Company. The plans are being drawn up in cooperation with the City of Tampere, with consideration of, among other aspects, the connections to the future Station Centre.

Itsenäisyydenkatu 2
The existing Ukko-Pekka building is to be replaced with a 24-storey tower block that will house, for example, a new hotel as well as commercial and office premises, in addition to facilitating traffic connections for the nearby area. The new building is set to become a sculpturesque landmark at the end of the Hämeenkatu street view. In the city skyline, the tall section of the building will join the already implemented series of tall new construction, standing between Hotel Torni and the Luminary residential tower.

Renowating the Tullikamari
The iconic customs office, nowadays better known for its events, Tullikamari is undergoing a large renowation. With the renovation we are making sure that the building continues its role as a lively culture centre in the future. The renowation is carried out by Tampereen tilapalvelut.
