Future

The Station District is a new and urban part of the city centre that is taking shape around Tampere Railway Station. The district entails various projects and constitutes Tampere’s most significant development target at the very heart of the city.

The area is located at an important transport node in the middle of Tampere and, when completed, will provide closer and more pleasant connections between the eastern and western sides of the city centre across the railway.

More high-rises, offices and an inviting raised park

The Station Centre as well as the North Deck projects are outlining the area between the railway station and Nokia Arena, including new homes, jobs, services and a verdant raised park to be enjoyed by city residents and visitors alike. The planned new cohesive area, partially built above the railway, seeks to improve the connections between the station and Nokia Arena, as well as between the city centre and the Tulli district.

Travel terminal

The new travel terminal, which combines the Itsenäisyydenkatu underpass and the old Asematunneli tunnel, will serve several modes of transport and make for smoother exchanges between the tram and trains, for example.

Erkkilän silta

The renewed Erkkilän silta bridge will have separate lanes for pedestrians, cyclists and motor traffic. The bridge will be raised and widened and will also receive an updated look.

New hotels

A new cluster of tall hotels is in the plans to the east of the railway – hotel towers will be allocated in the plans both next to the existing Hotel Torni and replacing the Ukko-Pekka building at Itsenäisyydenkatu 2, in order to serve the needs of Tampere’s growing tourism and events sector.

Tullikamari

The iconic customs office, nowadays better known for its events, Tullikamari is undergoing a large renowation. With the renovation we are making sure that the building continues its role as a lively culture centre in the future.

Underground parking

Space will be freed up for housing and services in the Station District once the existing P-Asema parking facility is replaced with the future Travel and Service Centre. The parking services will move underground to the new P-Hämppi expansion, which will also have a new underground driving connection from Viinikankatu.
