Walking

The biggest change for pedestrian traffic is the closing of the indoor station tunnel and the outdoor Itsenäisyydenkatu underpass. From the Tulli direction, you can still walk through the railway station and access the station platforms via the Travel Centre tunnel. From Tammela, the Rongankatu underpass and the newly improved Rongankatu street serve as the pedestrian connection to the city centre.

In the Erkkilä area, due to the closure of the Erkkilän silta bridge, alternative routes will run via the Rongankatu underpass, Rongankatu and Lapintie.

In the immediate vicinity of the railway station

From the direction of Hämeenkatu, the railway station and platforms can be accessed as usual through the main entrance. In addition, the Travel Centre tunnel located at the south end of the station remains in use as a barrier-free pedestrian connection both to the station platforms and for through-traffic in the station area.

Erkkilän silta

The Erkkilän silta overbridge is closed for renovations and will be reopened for traffic in August 2026. For the duration of the bridge works, the Erkkilänkatu street will be closed to traffic between Peltokatu and Rautatienkatu.

Rerouting on Ratapihankatu

During April, tracks 7 and 8 in the passenger railway yard will be removed and replaced with a temporary roadway onto which traffic will be rerouted for the duration of the construction work. With the exception of a few work phases, Ratapihankatu will remain open to traffic throughout the project. The bridge section of Ratapihankatu will be completed by the summer of 2026.
